SIMPLIFY .NET-JAVA/J2EE INTEROPERABILITY

Interoperability challenges are pervasive among medium and large-size enterprises that have data centers built on a variety of systems, technologies, and platforms. Most are looking for cost-effective ways to interoperate platforms without introducing more complexities to their IT architectures. Despite their power and flexibility, Web services aren't a magic bullet to easy integration, and should be used only where appropriate.

Simplify IT infrastructure

Mainsoft enables IT organisations to simplify mixed .NET/J2EE™ production environments by deploying ASP and ASP.NET applications directly onto industry leading J2EE servers. IT organisations can quickly port Microsoft® .NET Web and server applications to a unified J2EE architecture, without having to rewrite the entire .NET code or retrain Visual Studio® engineers.

By consolidating .NET applications onto J2EE application servers such as WebSphere®, WebLogic®, JBoss® or Tomcat, IT organisations can eliminate the physical number of Windows® servers in the data centre.

Mainsoft empowers enterprise customers to:

Simplify application development

Mainsoft preserves the enterprises' existing skill sets and development methodologies. C# and Visual Basic .NET developers continue working with business analysts to understand and refine the business requirements, and they continue using the Visual Studio .NET IDE to develop and maintain .NET Web and server applications. The main difference is that the .NET Web and server applications are now running on J2EE architecture. Mainsoft's Visual MainWin for J2EE introduces the ability to reference and consume Java™ components such as Enterprise Java Beans directly within Visual Studio .NET.  It compiles the .NET application to J2EE, debugs both the .NET and Java code within Visual Studio, and deploys the entire application on industry-leading J2EE servers such as IBM WebSphere® and WebSphere Express, BEA WebLogic®, JBoss® and Tomcat.  Enterprises can also portalise their ASP.NET applications and deploy them on WebSphere Portal.

.NET TO LINUX MIGRATION

Many IT organisations that have invested heavily in .NET see Linux as a potential way to lower their total cost of ownership over time while enhancing IT flexibility and performance. Until now, existing investments in .NET code and skills have made Linux a risky, impractical alternative.

In partnership with IBM, Mainsoft enables you to migrate Microsoft® ASP, ASP.NET and .NET server applications to Linux, WebSphere® and WebSphere Portal®, without rewriting the .NET code.

Mainsoft's Visual MainWin for J2EE supports IBM's full line of eServer platforms, from entry-level x86-based servers, blades and POWER-based servers to Linux on the mainframe.

Mainsoft's Professional Services team has developed a proven, systematic methodology that addresses the most common and most problematic challenges of complex porting projects to deliver projects on time and on budget. We base our estimates on our capacity to port up to 5,000 lines of code to J2EE per day, depending on the size and complexity of the project. Customers typically save an average fifteen to eighteen months or more over rewriting the application from scratch.

Visual MainWin Linux migration program
We offer a proven 3-step methodology to expedite Linux migration projects:

Phase 1: Fixed-time, fixed-cost proposal

Mainsoft's cross-platform experts analyse your Windows® application binaries to build a porting project and deliver a fixed-time, fixed-cost proposal, including milestones and resource allocation. In most cases, we don't need source code to complete the analysis, and there is no need for an NDA.
The technical review includes:

Phase 2: Code migration

We next request the .NET application source code, including the test suite and we set-up a reference Windows build of the application to be ported together with the test suite. We then validate that the test suite passes on Windows.

Our cross-platform experts will port the test suite as well as the application, while documenting any changes to the original code made to address inherent platform semantic gaps and integration with third-party components. Finally, we validate the test suite on Linux and deliver the migrated application, which now compiles, builds, runs and passes the test suite on Linux the same way it does it on Windows.

Phase 3: Skills migration

In the final phase, we empower enterprise development teams to maintain and develop J2EE applications using the same .NET team that designed and developed the original application. We set up a cross-platform development environment tailored to the enterprise's needs. Customers get the tools and cross-platform methodologies to enable .NET developers to maintain and develop the Linux application quickly and cost effectively from within the Visual Studio® .NET development environment.
